Production suspended at Nestlé facility in Kentucky

RP news wires, Noria Corporation

On June 9, Nestlé officials were able to more thoroughly assess the damage that occurred at their Mt. Sterling, Ky., production facility early Friday morning, June 8. Following detailed inspection of the various mechanical, electrical and refrigeration systems, the Nestlé manufacturing team has concluded that damage is extensive. Production at this facility will be suspended through much of the week of June 10 and likely will resume one line at a time, as repair work is finalized and testing is completed. The company is asking Nestlé employees of the Mt. Sterling facility to call 859-499-2131, 859-499-2156 or 859-499-2184 to receive detailed instructions regarding when they may expect to report back to work. These numbers will be staffed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., beginning Monday morning, June 11.

Construction crews and their materials as well as various Nestlé experts are arriving in Mt. Sterling; all are anxious to begin repairs to the damaged facility, which suffered a rupture in its ammonia refrigeration system in the early morning hours of Friday, June 8. Fortunately, employees there initiated an “emergency stop” procedure which stopped the flow of ammonia and triggered the automatic ventilation of ammonia from the facility. Several employees were evaluated at a local hospital; all were released Friday morning and are fine.
