Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) announced it was awarded the Enterprise Applications Service Technologies (EAST) contract by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to provide a broad range of information technology (IT) services in support of the NASA Enterprise Applications Competency Center. The single-award contract begins February 1, 2011, and has a two-year base period of performance, one two-year option and a single one-year option. The contract also has an indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity (ID/IQ) component. The maximum potential value of this contract if all options are exercised, including the ID/IQ component, is $321 million. Work will be performed at the Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) in Huntsville, Ala.

The EAST contract is part of the NASA Information Technology Infrastructure Integration Program (I3P), which aims to consolidate the agency's IT and data services. Under the contract, SAIC will provide all services necessary to operate and maintain NASA's set of integrated enterprise application systems supporting all 10 NASA field centers, NASA Headquarters in Washington, D.C., and the NASA Shared Services Center in Bay St. Louis, Miss. The contract is a follow-on effort for the enterprise applications work performed under the Unified NASA Information Technology Services (UNITeS) contract. SAIC has been the prime contractor on the UNITeS contract since January of 2004.

Sen. Richard Shelby (R-Alabama) certainly knows SAIC and its long-term investments in the region and extensive support to NASA. While visiting MSFC the day after the contract award, he commented, "the award will reinforce MSFC's role in the management, integration, and delivery of IT infrastructure to support all 10 NASA field centers. This effort provided by SAIC at MSFC will transform the management of IT to achieve efficiencies, improve security, and enhance collaboration across the entire agency. I am proud of Huntsville's continuing leadership position in NASA's human exploration goals."

"This contract award is a tribute to the excellent work performed by the SAIC UNITeS team over the last seven years in developing, maintaining, and delivering quality systems to support NASA's enterprise applications and IT infrastructure," said Joe Craver, president of SAIC's Infrastructure, Energy, Health and Product Solutions Group. "We are proud to be selected to continue to work with the agency as they inspire our nation as pioneers for the future in space exploration, scientific discovery and aeronautics research."
