Aisin World Corporation of America (AWA), a Tier One, worldwide supplier of automotive components, on October 16 announced that it has been presented with the Supplier of the Year Award by Toyota Industrial Equipment Manufacturing (TIEM).

A subsidiary of Toyota Industries Corporation, TIEM is a joint venture with Toyota Motor Corporation. The award acknowledges suppliers who have met TIEM's highest standards in quality, delivery, diversity, technology/development and value improvement for parts and materials. AWA supplies transmissions for TIEM's one-, two- and three-ton forklift trucks. The transmissions are manufactured at Aisin Drivetrain Inc., in Crothersville, Ind.

"We are proud and honored to have been presented with this award once again," said Mike Gilpin, drivetrain sales manager for AWA. "To be selected for four consecutive years, and five times in the past six years, is an incredible honor and a testament to the quality and hard work of our Aisin associates."

Given TIEM's leading position in the fork lift truck market, suppliers must meet stringent quality standards. Aisin's aluminum-cast transmissions, which are used on TIEM's internal combustion fork lift trucks, have consistently met these standards for quality. The robust Aisin transmissions are equipped on fork lift trucks handling one to three tons of load.

Based in Plymouth, Mich., AWA is a subsidiary of the Aisin Group, headed by Aisin Seiki Company Ltd. with corporate offices in Kariya City, Aichi, Japan. The Aisin Group is a worldwide supplier of automotive components, such as brakes, transmissions, drive train, chassis, body and information-related systems and components, and engine-related parts. In North America, the Aisin Group has 28 manufacturing, R&D and sales centers, and approximately 10,000 employees.
