GM Daewoo Auto & Technology (GM Daewoo) announced October 4 that GM’s next-generation global small car, the all-new Chevrolet Aveo, will initially be produced at its Bupyeong No. 1 plant in Seoul, South Korea.
The new Aveo was originally unveiled in January at the 2010 North American International Auto Show in Detroit as a concept car called the Chevrolet Aveo RS, was revealed in production form at the Paris Motor Show last week.
As GM’s global mini and small car development base, GM Daewoo led the design and R&D of the new model. The new Aveo small car is expected to be rolled out globally after entering the Korean market in the first half of 2011.
“GM Daewoo is proud to be the first member of the GM family to produce and sell GM’s next-generation global small car. With demand for small cars on the rise worldwide, this is great news not only for GM Daewoo and our suppliers, but for Korean consumers as well,” said GM Daewoo president and CEO Mike Arcamone. “With production of the new Aveo in the next year, the utilization rate of the Bupyeong plant will rise sharply. It will join our plants in Gunsan, Changwon, and Boryeong in operating at full capacity.”
The new Aveo is one of four Chevrolet products from GM Daewoo that are making their world premiere in Paris. GM has also introduced the Cruze Hatchback show car and production versions of the Orlando multi-purpose vehicle and refreshed Captiva SUV by its largest brand, Chevrolet.
