Tulsa and Oklahoma City rank among the Southwest's top manufacturing cities, according to the new Oklahoma Manufacturers Register, a manufacturers' directory published by Manufacturers' News Inc. Tulsa and Oklahoma City rank fifth and sixth, respectively, among the Southwest's top 10 manufacturing cities.

According to Manufacturers' News, Tulsa is Oklahoma's manufacturing capital with 1,266 manufacturing companies, employing 49,185 workers. Oklahoma City follows closely behind with 1,318 manufacturers and 48,683 related jobs.

Together, the two cities represent 38 percent of Oklahoma's manufacturing plants and 40 percent of the state's industrial employment.

"Tulsa and Oklahoma City's industrial employment remains strong in the region as plants in the oil and gas and aircraft industries expand production to meet global demands," said MNI president Tom Dubin.

MNI's newest data shows Oklahoma as a whole is home to 6,499 manufacturing companies employing 220,619 workers, ranking it the 3rd largest manufacturing state in the Southwest. The register's survey profiles both large and small Oklahoma manufacturers, including start-up companies with just a few employees.
