RP news wires, Noria Corporation

Weyerhaeuser Company on August 30 announced that it has acquired OrganicID, a developer of printed radio frequency identification devices. OrganicID holds proprietary technology to design and develop low cost, item-level RFID tags for inventory control and supply-chain applications.

The organic transistor is constructed by successively depositing and patterning multiple layers of conductive materials on an insulating substrate.

The technology is important to the packaging industry as more consumer products manufacturers and retailers move toward RFID to identify, count and manage inventory.

OrganicID is located in Colorado Springs, Colo. ITU Ventures was the venture capital investor in OrganicID. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Weyerhaeuser, one of the world's largest integrated forest products companies, was incorporated in 1900. In 2005, sales were $22.6 billion. It has offices or operations in 18 countries, with customers worldwide. Weyerhaeuser is principally engaged in the growing and harvesting of timber; the manufacture, distribution and sale of forest products; and real estate construction, development and related activities.
