RP news wires

BAE Systems generated an economic impact of more than $638 million in New Hampshire during 2009, the company announced on March 3. The financial impact reflects $514 million disbursed in payroll to 4,700 employees and nearly $124 million awarded for subcontracts and purchase orders to more than 350 businesses in the state.

The company’s direct economic impact on the state increased by $32 million from the previous year, when BAE Systems had a total of $606 million in payroll and subcontract awards to New Hampshire companies.

The company and its employees also contributed $2.9 million in cash and in-kind services to area civic, charitable, and educational institutions during 2009. Employee contributions to New Hampshire charities included more than $1.8 million to support local United Way campaigns and other employee-specified charities. The largest single corporate contribution was $100,000 to support the Alan B. Shepherd Science Center at the Christa McAuliffe Planetarium.

BAE Systems employees volunteer their time for many community organizations. Last year, they logged more than 3,500 hours to support the annual Granite State Regional FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) robotics competition in Manchester. FIRST is a partnership of teachers, administrators, parents, and industry volunteers whose combined efforts help to give the world its future engineers, scientists, technicians, inventors, and business people.

In 2008 and 2009, Business NH Magazine named BAE Systems among its “10 Best Companies to Work For.”
