Hot tools: TTI pushes envelope on lithium-ion technology

RP news wires, Noria Corporation

Techtronic Industries Company Ltd. is taking its superior lithium-ion battery technology even further to introduce the latest advances in cordless power tools, keeping its power tools at the forefront of innovation in the professional power tool industry.

"Our lithium-ion chemistry represents the superior lithium-ion solution for power tools. Building on this powerful platform, we offer the professional end-users the most comprehensive range of lithium-ion power tools with the best-in-class-performance that will save them time and money on the job," said Horst J. Pudwill, chairman and CEO of TTI. "We are bringing more 'firsts' to the power tool industry, setting the industry standard for cordless performance and providing TTI a powerful growth platform going forward."

The introduction of the Milwaukee Electric Tool V28 line in 2005 has proved to be a huge success, well received by the end-users and winning numerous awards from leading industry publications. The company has added four new products to the V28 platform including a rotary hammer, right angle drill, metal cutting circular saw and job site radio. In addition, TTI is now further expanding its lithium-ion platform with:

- Milwaukee V18 line of heavy duty 18-volt lithium-ion power tools

- RIDGID XLi 24-volt line of lithium-ion power tools

- RIDGID Max Select system of dual-voltage cordless power tools

Milwaukee V18 lithium-ion cordless tools

The Milwaukee V18 system, a new line of 18-volt lithium-ion cordless tools, will be on store shelves in September. These V18 lithium-ion batteries can retrofit onto existing Milwaukee 18-volt nickel-cadmium (NiCd) tools. By placing a V18 battery on a Milwaukee 18-volt NiCd tool, users can get up to twice the runtime on their favorite cordless products without buying into a completely new platform. The new charger that accompanies V18 tools also powers both V28 lithium-ion batteries and 18-volt NiCd batteries, making life on the job site a lot easier.

RIDGID XLi 24-volt line of lithium-ion cordless system

TTI has also expanded the lithium-ion technology to RIDGID. In July 2006, TTI introduced the RIDGID XLi 24-volt lithium-ion system, which was designed to offer professional contractors the ideal balance of power to weight with more torque and longer run time than 18-volt NiCd tools as well as fade-free power. It also features the Ex-cell Diagnostic battery, the smart battery that constantly monitors performance. The RIDGID XLi 24-volt lithium-ion system includes a tough 24-volt Hammer Drill Kit and 24-volt Combo Kit.

RIDGID Max Select system

This October, TTI will take RIDGID cordless power tools to a whole new level with the Max Select system of dual-voltage cordless power tools. This is the first line of cordless power tools that can run on two different voltages and two different battery chemistries.

With RIDGID Max Select, professional power tool users can make additions to their 18-volt NiCd cordless power tool collection. These additional Max Select tools in the collection will also work with the RIDGID 24-volt lithium-ion batteries.

Professional power tool users that are currently working with their RIDGID 18-volt NiCd system can maximize their investment by adding Max Select tools to that system. When they choose to upgrade to the RIDGID 24-volt lithium-ion system, all of their Max Select tools will work with either their new 24-volt lithium-ion batteries or any of their existing 18- volt NiCd batteries. This helps them save money by using the 18-volt NiCd batteries, which they already have. RIDGID Max Select tools running on 24-volt lithium-ion batteries deliver the power and long, fade free run time that means superior jobsite efficiency for every user. Each Max Select cordless tool is engineered for optimum performance at either voltage.
