Whirlpool to expand Amana manufacturing operations

Whirlpool Corporation on July 20 announced an expected investment of up to $11 million for the expansion of its Amana, Iowa-based refrigeration operations. This investment will support product innovation and increased manufacturing capacity for bottom freezer refrigeration and is expected to create up to 400 new jobs in Amana over the next 24 months. Whirlpool expects to employ approximately 2,900 people at the facility by the end of 2008.

"Investing in our Amana manufacturing facility will allow us to expand production of bottom freezer refrigerator models to meet growing consumer demand for these popular appliances," said David L. Swift, president of Whirlpool North America. "This investment also will help us drive improved productivity and efficiency, and support the continuing efforts of our brands to deliver a constant stream of innovation to consumers."
