Alcoa lauded for recruiting, retaining diverse workforce

RP news wires, Noria Corporation

Alcoa announced September 29 that it is the first Metals and Mining company to achieve a top rating of 100 in the 2010 Corporate Equality Index and Best Places to Work Survey for its efforts in recruiting and retaining a diverse workforce.

The index rates 590 businesses on a scale from zero to 100 based on several criterion, including diversity training, transgender and partner health benefits and insurance, employer-sponsored and supported employee resource groups, and exhibiting responsible behavior toward the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community.

“We are proud to receive this top rating in the Corporate Equality Index. By promoting inclusiveness and diversity at Alcoa, we are enriched by the unique perspectives and talents that contribute to our innovation and continued success,” said Klaus Kleinfeld, Alcoa president and CEO. “We intend to continue supporting the good work of the members of ‘Employees at Alcoa for Gay and Lesbian Equality (EAGLE)’.”

The index is sponsored by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation (HRC), the educational arm of America’s largest civil rights organization working to achieve LGBT equality. To view the report, visit www.HRC.org/CEI.
