Siemens Energy Inc., together with North Carolina Governor Bev Perdue, announced May 14 its plans to expand its operation in Charlotte, N.C. The company plans to build a 75,000-square-foot office facility adjacent to its existing manufacturing plant on Westinghouse Boulevard on the southwest side of Charlotte. The expanded facility will house engineering operations that will support the company's design, manufacture and service of power generation components. Over the next five years, the company expects to invest a total of nearly $50 million and create 226 new engineering and manufacturing jobs at this location.

"The U.S. is Siemens' largest market, and that's why we've long been committed to expanding our presence and investment here. We already supply the power systems that provide one-third of the nation's electricity, and through this expansion in Charlotte, we will be able to continue bringing efficient and competitive power generation solutions to our U.S. and Americas-based customers," said Randy Zwirn, president and CEO of Siemens Energy. "We've had a presence in the Charlotte area and in other areas in North Carolina for decades, and it was our first hand knowledge of the excellent business environment here that convinced us to expand our investment further. We owe many thanks to the State of North Carolina for its ongoing dedication to our business success."

"North Carolina is an international leader in innovative power and energy production, research and design," Governor Perdue said. "Our state's forward-looking policies continue to attract leading-edge global companies looking to invest and expand here, thanks to our top-rated business climate, world-class research facilities, knowledge-skilled workers and renowned quality of life."

Siemens Energy currently employs 780 workers at its 550,000-square-foot Charlotte manufacturing facility, an operation that has been in place for 40 years. The Charlotte facility is part of the Siemens Energy vast manufacturing network all around the world.

"Our Charlotte operation is a critical part of Siemens Energy global manufacturing network, serving not only the U.S. but other regions in the Americas as well," said Dr. Michael Suess, CEO of the Siemens Energy Fossil Power Division. "We have manufacturing locations strategically positioned all over the world in order to best serve our customers with solutions that are delivered more quickly and cost efficiently."

The Siemens Energy Sector is the world's leading supplier of a complete spectrum of products, services and solutions for the generation, transmission and distribution of power and for the extraction, conversion and transport of oil and gas. In fiscal 2008 (ended September 30), the Energy Sector had revenues of approximately EUR22.6 billion and received new orders totaling approximately EUR33.4 billion and posted a profit of EUR1.4 billion.
