An apprenticeship program aimed at providing workers for the growing machine tool industry in the Michigan-Indiana area is starting its second semester with 22 students who are earning both high school and Vincennes University credits while preparing themselves for jobs.
The Apprentice Academy, supported by a consortium of some 14 manufacturers, organized more than a year ago to provide a pipeline of workers for the industry that finds itself stymied by a lack of qualified employees.
