GreenWood Inc., an integrated maintenance and construction solutions provider, recently participated in a safety celebration at Merck & Company Inc. in Elkton, Va., where GreenWood provides plant expansion and supplemental maintenance services. The event marked a significant safety milestone of 3.5 million work hours without a lost-time injury spanning from 1990 through 2008. For Merck and GreenWood, working safely without downtime translates to low operating costs and high production gains.
Nearly 200 employees and their families were treated to a special dinner that included door prizes and special gifts. Commemorative safety hats, shirts and monetary awards were given out signifying the unique accomplishment. GreenWood management team members attended the event and participated in the distribution of prizes.
“The importance of safe work practices cannot be emphasized enough,” says Brad Wood, president of GreenWood. “Reaching this significant milestone at Merck reflects our commitment to creating a safe and healthy environment for our employees and those at Merck. Equally important is taking a moment to recognize teams and individuals who make a daily effort to work safely and protect others in the workplace. We are honored to participate in this celebration shoulder to shoulder with the Merck team.”
Merck consistently maintains stringent safety best practices according to OSHA standards, and GreenWood is an active participant in all safety programs and work execution. Since 1990, GreenWood has been providing Merck with special project services such as upgrades, repairs, piping, electrical, civil and structural as well as those that augment Merck’s maintenance organization.
