The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recently approved Fluor Corporation as the newest participant in the Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP) Corporate Pilot. Launched in May 2004, the primary goal of the program is to streamline the application and onsite evaluation processes for organizations that are committed to VPP.

"Fluor Corporation has implemented a safety and health management system that reflects the quality standards set forth in OSHA's VPP," said Edwin G. Foulke Jr., Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health. "As the newest member of the VPP Corporate Pilot, we applaud Fluor for achieving exemplary safety and health practices at all of its worksites and look forward to continuing our successful relationship to protect employees well into the future."

The VPP onsite evaluation team noted that Fluor demonstrates a culture of safety and health through all levels of the organization. The company also utilizes a web-based network of moderated forums to disseminate information and answer questions related to safety and health. Fluor is the sixth active participant to become part of the VPP Corporate Pilot, joining Washington Division of URS Corporation, Georgia-Pacific, General Electric Company, U.S. Postal Service and Dow Chemical Company.

"At Fluor, safety is one of our main corporate values and it impacts the lives of every one of our employees on a daily basis. We are honored to have been chosen to participate in OSHA's elite Corporate Voluntary Protection Program," said Fluor chairman and CEO Alan Boeckmann. "The cooperative relationship between our two organizations will certainly help drive improvements in our own health, safety and environmental performance and add value for our clients. We are proud of our employees who have worked so diligently to achieve such exemplary safety performance."

Fluor is one of the largest, publicly owned engineering, procurement, construction and maintenance services companies, with more than 46,000 employees working in more than 25 countries across six continents. Based in Irving, Texas, the organization consists of many subsidiaries including AMECO Services Inc., DEL-JEN Inc., Plant Performance Services LLC (P2S), and TRS Staffing Solutions Inc. Fluor has six active OSHA VPP sites.
