Toyota names first non-Japanese to board of directors

Toyota Motor Corporation on April 12 named a non-Japanese to its board of directors for the first time, appointing American Jim Press, president of the automaker's North American operations, amid growing fears of a political backlash for its booming U.S. sales.

 

The move is the latest step in Toyota's efforts to bolster its international standing. It also comes when Toyota is boosting sales in North America, grabbing market share from Detroit auto makers.
