Inc. magazine announced on March 16 that it plans to rank the top 100 fast-growth private companies in every major metropolitan area in the United States and the top 100 fast-growth businesses in every major industry. The listings will be part of the Inc. 5,000, the most comprehensive database of the fast growing companies in the United States.

The rankings will be made public in the September issue of the magazine and be released via the magazine and Inc.com. Companies that make the lists will be profiled by Inc. The magazine has embarked on a major outreach campaign to identify these companies, reaching out to millions of businesses over a six month period.

"With approximately 75 percent of all new job creation in the U.S. coming from small businesses, the Inc. 5000 is a prescient indicator of the companies and industries that are driving the economy forward," said Edward Sussman, president of Mansueto Digital, which runs Inc.com. "Ranking the fastest-growing private companies in the top 20 markets will give us an even broader snapshot of the cities that are fueling America's fastest-growing private companies. It's the best way to see the future of business as it is being created."
