Honda to Invest $46M to Expand North Carolina Equipment Plant

Honda recently announced a $46.4 million investment to expand the manufacturing capabilities of its power equipment plant in Swepsonville, North Carolina.

The investment is expected to strengthen production technologies in the facility and include a production line for the company’s new general-purpose engine as well as a 135,000-square-foot plant expansion for parts storage.

As one of Honda's highest producing plants, the facility has an annual capacity of more than 2 million general-purpose engines and 500,000 finished products, including lawnmowers, snow throwers, string trimmers, mini-tillers and generators.

"Our decision to invest in Honda's Swepsonville plant fulfills Honda's longstanding approach to build products close to the customer and demonstrates our strong commitment to North Carolina," said Shane McCoy, senior vice president at Honda Power Equipment (HPE) Mfg. 

In addition to this latest investment and expansion, HPE announced in February 2018 an investment of $10.5 million for a 116,000-square-foot plant expansion to support assembly and parts storage operations.

To date, Honda has invested a total of $350 million in the North Carolina facility, which began production in 1984 as the third Honda manufacturing plant in America. The facility’s cumulative production now exceeds 38 million products for customers across the globe.
