Komatsu recently announced that it has agreed to acquire Immersive Technologies, a western Australia-based mining workforce optimization company. The acquisition is expected to close on July 1, 2019.

Immersive Technologies will operate under its existing name as an independently managed, wholly owned subsidiary of Komatsu while continuing to collaborate with equipment manufacturers to address the performance improvement challenges of mixed equipment fleets.

“We are very pleased to welcome Immersive Technologies into the Komatsu group,” said Masayuki Moriyama, president of Komatu’s mining division and chairman of Komatsu Mining Corp. “We look forward to working together with Immersive Technologies to enhance Komatsu’s mining business and continue the success in its multiple-OEM simulator strategy.”

Immersive Technologies, which will retain its headquarters in Perth, develops, manufactures and sells mining equipment simulators for training machine operators in surface and underground mines. The company also offers educational programs designed to enhance the safety and productivity of operations, as well as training solutions to promote operational optimization.

“This acquisition represents the start of the next phase of Immersive Technologies’ evolution,” said Peter Salfinger, Immersive Technologies’ CEO and co-founder. “We now have the opportunity to contribute to the realization of Komatsu’s strategy for mining whilst also leveraging Komatsu’s vast support network and advanced technology portfolio. This includes closer collaboration with other well-known mining technology companies owned by Komatsu.”
