Georgia-Pacific to Open $150 Million Facility in Georgia

Georgia-Pacific recently announced plans to create 130 jobs and invest $150 million in a new state-of-the-art lumber production facility in Albany, Georgia.

Construction on the 320,000-square-foot facility is scheduled to begin by the end of 2018 with an anticipated startup in late 2019. Once in production, the new facility is expected to receive nearly 180 log trucks each day and produce approximately 300 million board-feet of lumber a year.

This marks Georgia-Pacific’s third new softwood lumber mill announcement in 12 months, following investments at Talladega, Alabama, and Warrenton, Georgia. Through its packaging business, the company has also owned and operated a corrugated box plant in Albany since 1981.

"Albany was an attractive fit for this facility because of the talented workforce in the region, the cost of doing business, proximity to raw materials (trees), and access to rail and highways, plus we have received a very warm reception from the leadership in Albany, Dougherty County and the state of Georgia," said Fritz Mason, vice president and general manager for Georgia-Pacific Lumber.
