Michelin North America recently announced that it will invest $22 million in its facility in Dothan, Alabama, to increase the production of its high-performance light truck and SUV passenger tires.
The investment will create nearly 40 new jobs at the plant and include significant equipment upgrades that will result in a 10-percent increase in production. Currently, the Dothan facility employs 560 people. Installation of the upgrades has already begun at the facility and is scheduled to be completed by the summer of 2016.
"Over the past several years, the Dothan site has demonstrated its ability to deliver the high-quality tires that consumers demand from Michelin," said Pete Selleck, chairman and president of Michelin North America. "This is an exciting time for our Dothan site. The plant just celebrated its 35th anniversary of operation, and this project will help position Dothan to continue to be a strategic part of Michelin's future in the North American market."
Since first manufacturing tires at the site in 1975, Michelin has invested more than $8.6 billion in the United States.
Headquartered in Greenville, South Carolina, Michelin North America employs approximately 21,700 people and operates 20 production facilities in 17 locations in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The company designs, manufactures and sells tires for every type of vehicle, including airplanes, automobiles, bicycles, earthmovers, farm equipment, heavy-duty trucks and motorcycles.
