Day & Zimmermann recently announced that its engineering, construction and maintenance group has been awarded a three-year contract by Arizona Public Service Company (APS) to provide maintenance services at the Palo Verde Nuclear Generation Station near Phoenix. Mobilization and transition is underway for a January 2015 start work date.
"This is a significant contract for Day & Zimmermann," said Guy Starr, president of DZ Atlantic. "We are excited about expanding our partnership with APS to enhance value for Palo Verde and to provide more opportunities for Day & Zimmermann and its employees."
As Arizona's largest and longest-serving electricity utility, APS serves nearly 1.2 million customers in 11 of the state's 15 counties. Palo Verde is operated by APS and jointly owned by APS, Salt River Project, Southern California Edison Co., El Paso Electric, Public Service Co. of New Mexico, Southern California Public Power Authority and the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.
"We anticipate a strong, mutually beneficial relationship with Day & Zimmermann that will serve to continue to improve our processes, reduce our costs and strategically position us to safely and efficiently generate electricity for the long term," said Bob Bement, senior vice president of operations at Palo Verde.
