Johnson Controls Power Solutions received the 2009 Supplier of the Year Award from General Motors Corporation at the 18th annual awards presentation at the GM Design Dome in Warren, Mich. The award was based on the company's efforts to add value for batteries and consistently perform above expectations.
Alex Molinaroli, president of Johnson Controls Power Solutions, accepted the award on behalf of the business, which is the world's largest supplier of lead acid automotive batteries as well as the leading independent supplier of hybrid and electric battery systems.
"The Supplier of the Year award is always special but those suppliers recognized this year have risen above and beyond during one of the most challenging years in GM history," said Bob Socia, vice president, global purchasing and supply chain. "This is truly a world-class list of suppliers."
The Supplier of the Year program started in 1992, and each year a cross functional team of purchasing, engineering, quality, manufacturing and logistics executives determines the winners. This is the fourth Supplier of the Year award Johnson Controls has received from General Motors.
"We are extremely honored to be among the elite group of world-class companies General Motors is recognizing," said Molinaroli. "This past year is proof of the need for collaboration between automakers and suppliers. As the industry continues its rebound, we look forward to being a part of the solution along with our customers."
