The Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) 2009 Global 500 report recognizes global corporations who are leading efforts to tackle climate change. Molson Coors is named in the report among consumer staples companies in the S&P 500. Additionally, in Newsweek's inaugural Green Rankings, Molson Coors is ranked 86 overall out of 500 companies and fourth in the food and beverage sector, earning praise as a leader among brewery company peers.
"We appreciate that the Carbon Disclosure Project and Newsweek have recognized our progress toward sustainability and transparency," said Bart Alexander, vice president, global alcohol policy and corporate responsibility for Molson Coors. "We know we have more work to do, and welcome encouragement on our progress and feedback about our challenges as we seek to brew and build our great brands the right way."
For the 2009 reports, the CDP sent questionnaires to more than 3,700 corporations requesting information on greenhouse gas emissions, the potential risks and opportunities related to climate changes and strategies for managing those risks and opportunities. Molson Coors is included in the consumer staples industry and ranked sixth out of 32 respondents in the S&P 500 category. The company received a carbon disclosure score of 73 in a sector where the average disclosure score is 57.
The Newsweek ranking, the Green Score, is based on three components:
· Environmental impact score: a comprehensive and standardized quantitative performance measurement that captures the total cost of all environmental impacts of a corporation's global operations.
· Green policies score: an analytical assessment of a company's environmental policies and performance.
· Reputation score: based on an opinion survey of corporate social responsibility professionals, academics and other environmental experts who subscribe to CorporateRegister.com as well as CEOs and high ranking officials in all companies on the Newsweek 500 list.
With a Newsweek Green Score of 78.26, Molson Coors ranks fourth in the food and beverage industry sector. The company is ranked second in the industry for its green policies and performance and 21st and 27th for environmental impact and the reputation survey, respectively.
