Brown Printing in Waseca, Minn., has undergone several improvement initiatives over the years, most recently in 2007-2008 with an execution-oriented system. That initiative focused on extracting the maximum value possible from current operations and processes. With that achieved, Brown realized the next phase of improvements would have to come from changing their processes, so they turned to the Milwaukee School of Engineering and its partner, Sigma Breakthrough Technologies Inc. (SBTI), for an approach that would take into account both the strategic and grassroots issues needed for success.
