When I and the folks at Noria Corporation started developing the editorial framework for Reliable Plant magazine, I thought we had something special on our hands. At the time, I just didn’t know how special.
Reliable Plant debuted in July 2005. Over the past year, the response has been tremendous. Circulation for the print version of the magazine now exceeds 52,000.
Those numbers show that we’ve gotten the attention of the manufacturing industry. A couple of additional numbers show we’ve gotten the attention of the business press industry.
Noria and I are proud to announce that Reliable Plant has won three awards of editorial excellence in the 28th annual American Society for Business Publication Editors competition.
The ASBPE awards competition is the largest in the U.S. business press industry. It annually receives twice the number of entries of any other national contest.
Reliable Plant competed in ASBPE’s West Region (covering 19 states: publishing companies headquartered in Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wyoming) and against magazines with circulations of less than 80,000. This region includes many established, well-respected trade journals, such as PC World, Macworld, Network, Oracle Magazine, Workforce Management and the Silicon Valley Business Journal.
More than 2,600 entries, from issues published in 2005, were considered for awards in this year’s competition. Approximately 250 entries were cited across the country for editorial awards. Contest judges are experienced business press executives, editors, consultants and academicians.
The three ASBPE awards for Reliable Plant (produced by Tulsa, Okla.-based Noria) came from entries published in the magazine’s first three issues.
My cover story on planning and scheduling excellence at Coors Brewing Company (November/December 2005 issue) won in the case study category. ASBPE has humbled me with a case history award in each of the past four years and 12 overall awards in the past seven years.
Noria senior vice president Drew Troyer, Reliable Plant’s technical editor, won in the regular column, staff written, category for his column series, “The Exponent” (July/August and November/December 2005 issues). This is Troyer’s second career ASBPE honor. He also won a columnist award in the 2003 competition. Noria president Jim Fitch won in the regular department category for his “Lubrication Lessons” articles (July/August, September/October and November/December 2005 issues). This is Fitch’s first ASBPE honor.
Peer awards are very nice and greatly appreciated. They tell you that your work and your products are on par with the best in the business. However, it remains simply an acknowledgement of past work.
At Reliable Plant and Noria Corporation, we are committed to:
excellence in everything we do
providing you timely, relevant information that helps you in your quest to increase your plant’s reliability, productivity, performance and profitability
continuously improving our full array of publishing, education and service offerings
Reliable Plant accomplished plenty in its first year, but for us, that’s just the starting point. Paul V. Arnold, editor
