Former Gates chairman and CEO dies

Charles C. Gates, the former chairman and CEO of Gates Rubber Company, died Sunday at his home in Denver. He was 84.

He joined the family rubber business (started by his father, Charles Gates) after World War II, was named vice president of Gates Rubber in 1951 and president and chairman upon his father's death in 1961. Gates oversaw the company's transformation from a regional manufacturer into an internationally known one.
