Manufacturing leaders from facilities in the United States, Canada and Indonesia attended Reliable Plant magazine's fourth annual "Lean Tools for Maintenance & Reliability" conference. The event was held October 6-8 at the Marriott Hotel in Chicago.

More than 900 people attended the 16th annual Society for Maintenance & Reliability Professionals conference, held October 20-23 in Cleveland. Highlights of the organization's 2008 event included: Presentations: Industry leaders provided 54 white papers, forums and case studies October 21-22. The presentations were divided into six tracks — Business and Management, Manufacturing Process Reliability, Equipment Reliability, People Skills, Work Management, and SMRP Initiatives/Values. Companies that provided case studies included Sunoco Chemicals, U.S. Sugar, Eli Lilly, Dow Chemical, Xcel Energy, Cargill, BP Chemical, U.S. Pipe, Ontario Power Generation, Texas Instruments, Minnkota Power, Ametek, Shell Oil, Domtar Paper and Gallatin Steel. Among the companies that provided conference papers were General Physics, Management Resources Group, Vesta Partners, Reliability Management Group, ABB Reliability Services and Ivara.
