The Association for Facilities Engineering will conduct the Certified Plant Maintenance Manager course online in February and at a classroom in Indianapolis in March 2009. Applications are being accepted now.
Eligibility requirements are current employment as a maintenance professional and two years of experience.
Course participants will become proficient in preventive maintenance, predictive maintenance, work flow-planning and scheduling, computerized maintenance, investment returns and Total Productive Management. Upon successful completion of a 200-question exam, they will earn the prestigious CPMM credential.
The live, interactive online course will be taught 12 noon to 4 p.m. ET on February 2, 5, 9, 12, 16, 19, 23 and 26. The Indianapolis course will be taught at downtown site 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 16-20. Maintenance professionals also may opt to pursue the CPMM course and be tested on their own, at any time throughout the year. The same application requirements apply.
In addition to CPMM, the association conducts the Certified Plant Engineer (CPE) and Certified Plant Supervisor (CPS) programs. Thousands of these certified professionals are in workplaces throughout the world. They are employed at schools, hospitals, casinos, hotels, utilities, transit authorities, courthouses, zoos, country clubs and arts centers. They serve the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force and Corps of Engineers; they work for the U.S. Departments of State, Defense and Energy. The businesses they keep running manufacture everything from food to pharmaceuticals, aluminum to plastics. Some are self-employed consultants. Others are executives.
"Most employers invest in their buildings and the equipment that's used in those buildings," AFE chief executive officer Laurence Gration said. "AFE believes employers also should invest in continuing education of the people who keep those things operating at peak productivity. A certified professional has demonstrated superior knowledge of what it takes for a safe, reliable working environment."
