If developed properly, a maintenance system comprised of optimized decisions about what to do that is codified into written procedures provides the framework with which to apply new skills and capabilities. And, the procedures themselves, by codifying work expectations, provide a roadmap for skill enhancement and remediation. Often, we educate people about the basics, but fail to train them on the specific tasks. Procedures create the scope for task-based training.
