Toyota says sales in October were 0.9% lower than 2009 levels

Toyota Motor Sales (TMS) USA Inc. on November 3 reported October sales of 145,474 units, a decrease of 0.9 percent from the same period last year, on a daily selling rate basis (DSR). On a raw volume basis, unadjusted for 27 selling days in October 2010, compared to 28 selling days in October 2009, TMS sales were down 4.4 percent compared to the same period last year.

Toyota Division recorded sales of 124,383 vehicles, a decrease of 2.8 percent from the year-ago month, on a DSR basis. On a raw volume basis, Toyota Division sales were down 6.2 percent from last October. Lexus Division reported sales of 21,091 units for the month, up 12.2 percent over October 2009, on a DSR basis. Volume-wise, Lexus Division sales were up 8.1 percent compared to the year-ago month.

Toyota Division 
Toyota Division passenger cars recorded sales of 68,501 units, a decrease of 16.6 percent from last October. Toyota sales were led by Camry and Camry Hybrid, which posted combined monthly sales of 25,014 units. Corolla recorded sales of 18,636 units for the month. The Prius mid-size gas-electric hybrid reported sales of 11,731 units.

Toyota Division light trucks posted sales of 55,882 units in October, up 22.0 percent over the same period last year. Light truck sales were led by the RAV4 compact SUV, which recorded monthly sales of 14,694 units, up 9.1 percent over October 2009. Highlander and Highlander Hybrid posted combined sales of 8,664 units, up 50.3 percent over the year-ago month. 4Runner posted sales of 4,197 units for the month. The Tacoma mid-size pickup posted sales of 9,028 units, up 4.9 percent over October 2009. The Tundra full-size pickup recorded sales of 7,187 units. The Sienna minivan reported sales of 9,253, up 16.3 percent over last October.

Scion posted October sales of 4,654 units. The all-new, redesigned tC sports coupe led the way with sales of 2,162 units, up 112.1 percent over last October. The xB posted October sales of 1,618 units. The xD reported sales of 874 units for the month.

Lexus Division
Lexus reported passenger car sales of 10,815 units, up 7.4 percent over the year-ago month. Lexus passenger car sales were led by the ES entry luxury sedan which posted sales of 5,153 units, up 21.1 percent over the same period last year. The IS line-up reported combined sales of 3,096 units, up 1.5 percent over last October.

Lexus light trucks recorded sales of 10,276 units, up 17.6 percent over last October. Lexus Division sales were led by the RX 350 and RX 450h, which reported combined October sales of 8,569 units, up 6.9 percent over the year-ago month. With October sales of 1,306 units, GX mid-size luxury utility vehicle posted a gain of 297.2 percent over the same period last year.

TMS Hybrids
TMS posted October hybrid sales of 15,913, down 12.0 percent from the year-ago month. Toyota Division posted sales of 13,681 hybrids for the month. Lexus Division reported sales of 2,232 hybrids in October.
