Chart: Producer prices in July 2010
On an unadjusted basis, prices for finished goods advanced 4.2 percent for the 12 months ended July 2010, their ninth consecutive 12-month increase.
For the 12 months ended July 2010, prices for finished consumer foods increased 4.4 percent; for finished energy goods, 12.4 percent; and for finished goods less foods and energy, 1.5 percent.
Over the month, the Producer Price Index for Finished Goods rose 0.2 percent in July, seasonally adjusted. This advance followed a 0.5-percent decline in June and a 0.3-percent decrease in May.
The increase in the index for finished goods can be traced to higher prices for finished goods other than foods and energy, which rose 0.3 percent. Also contributing to the advance in finished goods prices, the index for consumer foods moved up 0.7 percent. By contrast, the finished energy goods index fell 0.9 percent in July.
