The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration has certified Standard Forged Products LLC as a Star site, the highest honor an employer can receive in its Voluntary Protection Programs.

"Standard Forged deserves to be recognized for its exemplary effort to maintain a safe and healthy work environment for employees," said Edward Selker, OSHA deputy regional administrator.

The McKees Rocks, Pa., company is one of the largest railcar axle and circular forging plants in the United States. The company provides a variety of high-volume products and services to companies in the transportation, industrial, construction and energy industries.

OSHA's recognition programs include the VPP for employers and employees that have implemented exemplary workplace safety and health management systems. In the VPP, management, labor and OSHA work cooperatively and proactively to prevent injuries, illnesses and workplace hazards. As part of attaining VPP status, employers must demonstrate management commitment to the safety and health of their employees, and actively involve employees in the safety and health management system.
