Ford says Canadian sales grew 19% in May

Ford Motor Company

Ford Motor Company of Canada Ltd. saw sales increase 19 percent compared to last May, with year-to-date sales up 25 percent. Strong sales of the Ford Taurus, Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX, which saw an increase of 242 percent, 65 percent and 74 percent, respectively, helped to drive the positive results. With sales of 101,054 units year-to-date, Ford of Canada continues to lead the market.

"As we continue to move aggressively toward offering customers industry-leading cars and CUVs, we are also committed to maintaining our truck leadership," said David Mondragon, president and CEO, Ford of Canada. "A great example is the all-new 2011 Ford F-Series Super Duty that delivers best-in-class torque and horsepower as well as class-leading fuel economy. This truck gets the job done."

After its first full month of sales, the 2011 F-Series Super Duty is off to a great start with sales of F-Series increasing 42 percent compared to the same period last year. Overall vehicle sales were up 19 percent with total truck sales up 29 percent compared to last May.

Another program that has resonated with Canadian consumers and is making solid headway is the newly expanded Ford Exclusive Recycle Your Ride program. Consumers now have the opportunity to turn in 2003 model year (or older) vehicles (of any make) for retirement and qualify to receive up to $3,000 toward the purchase of a new 2010 Ford or Lincoln vehicle. Previous retirement programs were limited to 1995 model year (or older) vehicles.

"By allowing consumers to retire vehicles that are 2003 model year, or older, about 60 percent of vehicles on Canadian roads now qualify within the program," said Mondragon.

In fact, since Ford expanded the program a month ago, more than 4,000 consumers have applied to have their vehicles retired. That's in addition to the 6,000 vehicles that were retired under Ford's previous Recycle Your Ride program.

"As we head into the summer sales season, the industry will be in unchartered waters considering the unprecedented events in the market during the summer months last year," Mondragon said. "At Ford, we'll remain focused on building long-term, sustainable business growth by offering the freshest showroom in the industry."
