Nissan global production in March increased 7.8% vs. 2009

Nissan Motor Company Ltd. on April 26 announced production, sales and export figures for March 2010 and fiscal year 2009, which ended March 31, 2010.

Production

March
Nissan's global production in March increased 85.2 percent year-on-year to 318,827 units.

Production in Japan increased 61.4% year-on-year to 99,903 units due to increased output of the new Fuga, Note and other export models.

Production outside of Japan saw a increase of 98.5% year-on-year to 218,924 units marking an all-time record for the month of March.

In the United States, production increased 94.3% year-on-year to 48,804 units due to increased demand for all models led by Altima and Maxima.

In Mexico, production was up considerably by 161.1% year-on-year to 38,508 units fueled by robust sales of the Tiida and Sentra.

In the United Kingdom, production increased 68.7% year-on-year to 35,300 units due to increased demand for all models and particularly the brisk sales of the Qashqai.

In Spain, production saw a considerable increase of 148.5% year-on-year to 7,902 units due to increased demand for all the models led by Navara.

In China, production increased 64.0% year-on-year to 62,574 units marking an all-time record for a single month.

Production in other regions was also remarkably up by 217.0% year-on-year to 25,836 units due to increased output in Thai.

April 2009 - March 2010
Global production for the 12 months ended March 31, 2010 increased 7.8% year-on-year to 3,145,396 units.

Production in Japan showed a slight decrease of 2.4% year-on-year to 1,025,253 units.

Production outside of Japan increased 13.5% year-on-year to 2,120,143 units.

In the U.S., production fell 3.3% year-on-year to 432,725 units.

In Mexico, production decreased 3.9% year-on-year to 404,128 units.

In the U.K., production increased 11.3% year-on-year to 379,574 units.

In Spain, production decreased 39.6% year-on-year to 65,506 units.

In China, production increased 58.2% year-on-year to 613,183 units marking an all-time record for the fiscal year which ended March 31.

Production in other regions was up by 38.3% year-on-year to 225,027 units due to increased output in Thailand.

Sales

March
Global sales increased 39.2% to 431,681 units compared to the previous year.

Including mini-vehicles, Nissan sold 94,207 units in Japan, up 19.3% year-on-year.

In Japan, vehicle registrations in March increased 23.8% year-on-year to 73,407 units due to increased demand for models eligible for the preferential tax exemption like Note, Cube, X-Trail and Serena.

Domestic sales of mini-vehicles were up 5.7% from the previous year to 20,800 units due to increased demand for the new Roox.

Sales outside of Japan increased 46.0% year-on-year to 337,474 units marking an all-time record for a single month.

Sales in the U.S. increased 43.4% year-on-year to 95,468 units due to increased demand for Versa, Maxima and Altima.

In Europe, sales increased 26.7% year-on-year to 53,142 units due to increased demand for Micra, Qashqai and Pixo.

In China, sales saw an increase of 61.4% year-on-year to 99,650 units marking an all-time record for a single month.

Sales in other regions increased 66.4% year-on-year to 65,033 units due to increased demand in Saudi Arabia, Thai and Indonesia.

April 2009 - March 2010
Global sales increased 5.7% to 3,615,880 units compared to the previous year.

Including mini-vehicles, Nissan sold 630,070 units in Japan, up 2.9% year-on-year.

In Japan, Nissan's vehicle registrations from April, 2009 to March 2010 increased 4.7% from the previous year to 493,839 units due to increased demand for models eligible for the preferential tax exemption like Serena, Note and Cube.

Domestic sales of mini-vehicles decreased 3.3% year-on-year to 136,231 units despite increased demand for Roox (newly introduced in December 2009).

Sales outside of Japan increased 6.3% year-on-year to 2,985,810 units.

Sales in the U.S. decreased 3.8% year-on-year to 823,565 units.

Sales in Europe decreased 2.4% year-on-year to 516,978 units.

In China, sales increased 53.3% year-on-year to 854,120 units making an all-time record for the 12 months ended March 31.

Sales in other regions decreased 6.9% year-on-year to 547,270 units.

Japan Exports

March
Nissan's exports in March increased 89.6% year-on-year to 47,717 units.

Exports to North America increased 84.8% year-on-year to 21,499 units due to increased demand for Infiniti G series, Murano and Rogue.

Exports to Europe was up considerably by 120.3% year-on-year to 3,252 units driven by the continued popularity of the X-Trail.

April 2009 - March 2010
Nissan's exports from April, 2009 to March, 2010 decreased 16.4% year-on-year to 522,254 units.

Exports to North America increased 21.2% year-on-year to 281,716 units due to increased demand for Cube.

Exports to Europe decreased 44.2% year-on-year to 43,332 units.

* For purposes of this release, global retail and production volume of China and Taiwan were recalculated from April '09 to March '10 period.
