Rockwell buys Canadian motor company

Paul V. Arnold, Noria Corporation

Rockwell Automation announced that it has purchased Quality Rewind & Electric Inc., a motor repair and motor management company based in Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The acquisition provides Rockwell Automation with an established industrial services business that will allow Rockwell to expand in the Canadian "oil sands" industry, the company said.

The four major oil sands deposits in Alberta contain more than 1.7 trillion barrels of bitumen, a source of crude oil. The oil sands provide about one-quarter of Canada's supply of petroleum, according to industry experts.

The addition of Quality Rewind will allow Rockwell Automation to extend its Reliance Electric, Dodge and Allen-Bradley brand products and services into manufacturing businesses serving the oil sands industry.
