Tyco Flow Control's Morin Actuator facility in Pelham, Ala., celebrates its approval by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OHSA) for Star participation in the Voluntary Protection Program (VPP). A VPP Star Worksite flag now flies at the facility in acknowledgement of its achievement. Morin Actuator is the first facility in Shelby, Jefferson, Bibb and Tuscaloosa counties in Alabama to receive this honor.

Approval into VPP is OSHA's official recognition of the outstanding efforts of employers and employees who have achieved exemplary occupational safety and health. The Star Program is designed for worksites with comprehensive, successful safety and health management systems. Companies in the program have achieved injury and illness rates at or below the national average of their respective industries.

"This award is a testament to our ongoing efforts to ensure we remain a leader for environmental health and safety (EHS) now and in the future," said Jim Harper, manager of the plant. "Since 2002, we've experienced record sales growth while achieving a reduction in incidents because all of us at Tyco Flow Control's Morin Actuator facility are dedicated to safety and health in the workplace."

OSHA's verification for VPP approval of Tyco Flow Control included an application review and a rigorous on-site evaluation by a team of OSHA safety and health experts. A review was conducted at the Pelham facility Aug. 20-23, 2007, to determine the site's eligibility for participation in the VPP.
