Column: Six Sigma, lean strategy go hand in hand

The symbiosis between Six Sigma and lean disciplines is coming more sharply into focus as more and more organizations start their lean journeys.

 

An executive in a lean manufacturing company in Wisconsin recently told me that quality improvements just jump out of a rigorous lean process, even though lean is aimed primarily at productivity improvements.

 

It has become so obvious that the two go together in Serigraph's lean journey that it almost can be raised to the level of axiom – quality improvements can go only so far without lean – or total quality management is impossible without lean disciplines.
