The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recognized the Sherwin-Williams Company for achievement in protecting employee safety and health at a ceremony at its manufacturing plant in Andover, Kan.

Sherwin-Williams, which has 147 employees who produce and ship an average of 550,000 gallons of paint per month, has been designated as a "merit" site in OSHA's prestigious Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP). Merit sites meet all safety and health elements for the program, which far exceed minimum OSHA standards.

"The Sherwin-Williams Company has exhibited excellence in safety and health management," said Charles E. Adkins, OSHA's regional administrator in Kansas City. "The company's outstanding efforts have included management commitment to safety and health, and employee involvement in safety and health programs."

OSHA's VPP recognizes and promotes effective workplace safety and health management. Companies in the VPP achieve average injury rates that are 50 percent lower than other companies in their respective industries. More than 1,700 worksites representing more than 270 industries nationwide participate in the program.
