Cummins spreading the wealth with Six Sigma projects

After two decades, the Six Sigma quality-management program is moving beyond the manufacturing floor.

 

Cummins, one the most passionate devotees of Six Sigma, uses it for accounting, human resources, information technology and other functions.

 

The diesel-engine maker estimates it has completed 2,500 Six Sigma projects since 2000, saving or avoiding more than $1.4 billion in costs.

 

Six Sigma is "applied in everything we do," said George Strodtbeck, executive director of corporate quality at Cummins.
