Safway Group recently received two Contractor Safety Excellence Awards for injury-free performance in 2013 at two refinery jobsites. Crew members at the Valero St. Charles refinery in Norco, La., worked a combined 261,677 hours without a recordable incident. Another crew working at the Phillips 66 Belle Chase site in Belle Chase, La., worked onsite for a total of 158,899 hours injury-free.

The Contractor Safety Excellence Awards program was designed by the Gulf Coast Safety Council (GCSC) to recognize the safety successes of crew members. A non-profit corporation, GCSC provides state-of-the-art training and support processes in industrial education for plant personnel and contract workers.

To qualify as a recipient of the Contractor Safety Excellence Award, nominated crews had to achieve zero fatalities, lost workday cases, total recordable cases and OSHA citations in both their respective company class and hours-worked category.

"When you are nominated for safety awards by multiple customers, you know that you are doing something right," said Safway New Orleans Branch Manager Sam Pruet. "Safety is our No. 1 priority. These awards exemplify our dedication to continuously improve safe work practices. We are proud of our employees who have demonstrated their commitment to safe work practices, which has rightfully earned them these awards."

At the Valero St. Charles refinery, Safway has performed both lump-sum and time-and-material work for major capital projects, construction, and turnarounds for several years. With up to 85 onsite employees, Safway Group is providing insulation, scaffold components and coating services.

Safway has also been a strong presence at the Bell Chase jobsite since 2009. With its Systems Scaffold, crew members have performed numerous maintenance, capitol and turnaround projects totaling more than 1 million man-hours with zero recordable incidents.
