Leaking landfill is hurdle at former Alcoa site in Washington

An old unlined landfill, containing industrial waste consolidated throughout a 218-acre property in the Pacific Northwest, is leaching pollution into groundwater. State of Washington environmental regulators, who had expected to finalize a cleanup plan earlier this year, say they are continuing to negotiate an agreement with the Alcoa to address the leaking landfill.
