Monsanto sites to receive OSHA Star recognition

Monsanto's world headquarters and its Chesterfield Village campus have earned membership in the prestigious "Star" Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) of the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). A recognition ceremony is scheduled for May 15.

"Monsanto has exhibited excellence in safety and health management at both locations," said Kansas City OSHA regional administrator Charles E. Adkins, CIH. "Their outstanding efforts have included management commitment to safety and health and employee involvement in safety and health programs."

The headquarters facility employs 3,500 workers who provide corporate administration and applied research for agricultural products. The Chesterfield Village campus has 290 employees who perform the primary research for Monsanto's biotechnology organization.

OSHA's Voluntary Protection Programs recognize and promote effective workplace safety and health management. Companies in VPP achieve average injury rates 50 percent lower than other companies in their industry. Nationwide, approximately 1,400 work sites participate in the program representing more than 280 industries.
