Charting workplace injuries/illnesses by industry

Between 2006 and 2007, the workplace injury and illness incidence rate declined in five of the 19 private industry sectors and was statistically unchanged in the remaining 14 industry sectors. This is according to data released by the U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The industry sectors with declines were agriculture, forestry, fishing and hunting; mining; construction; manufacturing; and health care and social assistance.

Overall, the incidence rate for private industry decreased from 4.4 cases per 100 equivalent full-time workers in 2006 to 4.2 cases in 2007.
